Takt – Symphony for Your Living Room

Single shake of the baton sets the mood of your living room at once!

IoT devices are so convenient that you already find lots of them in your room. Each one of the devices are very well thought to make our lifestyles better, but if there are too many of those working separately, you’ll find it pretty hard to make them under control…
What I wanted this time is to control those devices at a time to make the atmosphere that matches your certain feeling with one gesture. Just shake a baton like an orchestra conductor (or Harry Potter) to draw a certain shape in the air. The synced devices will respond to your gesture in a group. You know usually, for the romantic mood, you’ll need to play Barry White on the stereo a bit louder than usual, turn on dim light and the AC, etc., but with Takt, you just cast a spell with the stick.

Also, I didn’t want to make one of those remote controls that will eventually go missing under the piled magazines on the table. Takt stands up nicely so you never miss it!

Of course you can control one device to turn it on/off and adjust the volume, channels, etc.

Make the baton memorize your certain gestures. Your single shake of the baton sets the mood of your living room at once!

PAKKUN – Smart Robot for Guest Houses

Smart robotics‘ privately owned IoT robot “PAKKUN” and Yahoo’s IoT platform “myThings Developers” work together to start demonstrating the use of robots in private properties for leasing as guest houses and rooms. With this robot, they aim to improve the convenience of both the host and the guest.

Designing a robot was one of my dreams, and finally I’m really glad that the dream came true. PAKKUN, the robot has unbelievably cute voices and gestures so I tried to make it adorable and friendly.

Press Release

Now Free– Checkie! Image based checklist app

Items that are often left behind when leaving home, such as a schoolboy’s handkerchief, grocery items, baby wipes, etc. etc… Checkie! helps you remind those items with fun!

Everybody’s busy. So the timer directly starts the app and images are used instead of text so you can see and know what it is at a glance. All you have to do is touch the item when it’s ready. For the events that you don’t know when to happen, such as outing with a baby, an irregular business trip, just prepare lists of them ready at hand! What you can enjoy the most of Checkie! is when preparing a list so that even a little kid gets interested in the process, which helps her/him aware of self management of the belongings.

Users of Checkie! say it helps not only kids, adults and seniors who often leave something behind, but also people with ADD and ADHD.

It’s now available free on iPhone and iPad on App Store.

Product design of the ‘smartest’ smart lock robot

product2b2

The newest smart lock is finally released. I’m honored to have a chance again to design such great products of Photosynth Inc. This time I designed not only the smart lock itself and the door censor, but the brand new NFC reader, which allows your ID card compatible with the NFC to replace your physical door key.

Works for Tokyo Motor Show 2011

As I tweeted, I worked on a lot of concept designs for the movies of AGC (Asahi Glass Company) and TOYOTA for Tokyo Motor Show 2011.

It was my first time ever to design a car and a robot, but I had lots of fun making them.
Asahi Glass now introduces their great technologies in a booth for “Smart Mobility City 2011” in Tokyo Motor Show.

TOYOTA Smart Mobility City 2011 Concept Movie

(I’ll post the movie when it’s officially uploaded on YouTube. This is the old version.)

One of my mobile phone concepts “Glassy Glass” was again picked up and used in the movie.

Sign Language Interpreter

The camera captures the motion image of the speaker’s hand gesture. It translates it into an oral language and gives out the translated words.

You can pre-choose what kind of voice you’d like it to speak in. I’ll pick up tat of George Clooney’s. 🙂

On each sliding colored part (made of paper), you can write down your feelings you often have when reading.

The bottom half is a bar graph you can move freely. It shows what feelings you had last time in what proportion.
